Basin Street Brawlers are the UK’s own ‘world class’ (BBC) early jazz ensemble, famous for playing the most beautiful melodies and raucous rags of the 1920s and 1930s.
The group are acclaimed as ‘London’s top hot jazz ensemble’ (visitlondon.com) and make regular appearances at famous clubs and concert halls nationwide, including the Royal Albert Hall’s Elgar Room and Oxford’s Holywell Music Room. They have featured frequently on national radio, playing live on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 3, in addition to their recorded output receiving reviews in the broadsheet newspapers.
With a unique combination of vocal harmony with trumpet, trombone, clarinet, piano and guitar, the Brawlers swing and stomp their way through the finest songs of Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday and Fats Waller “with all the energy and assurance of a bunch of Kansas City veterans” (The Sunday Times).
